 Our learning in Tawny Owls

  • We have been busy identifying and naming 2D and 3D shapes while using fantastic mathematical vocabulary! What super mathematicians we are!
  • We have been fantastic at learning the story of The Gruffalo, retelling the story with actions and creating our own story maps!
  • In Science, we have been learning about seasonal changes across all four seasons and we have created our own seasons wheel to show what you might see in each season!
  • The Phase 1 classes celebrated Bonfire Night and Diwali with a special day of activities. Each class learnt about the festival of Diwali and the history of Bonfire Night and why we celebrate it. What a super day of celebrations!
  • In Tawny Owls we made Diwali tea light holders from salt dough.
  • In our Wonderful Welly Wednesday, we found out that hedgehogs have 500 spines on their backs, and they hibernate throughout the winter months! We then used clay and sticks to create hedgehogs. What amazing creations!
  • In Maths, we have been learning our number bonds to 10 using the part-part-whole model.
  • While we were reading in the school library something unexpected happened... we noticed an old piece of paper lying on the floor. To our surprise, it turned out to be a page from Samuel Pepys' diary! Excited, we read it together as a class, learning more about his experiences during the Great Fire of London.
  • We have been super-duper story writers and have been writing our own version of 'The Smartest Giant in Town'. Well done authors!
  • We have been learning a new skill in art called 'Continuous Line Drawing'. We went outside and collected whatever natural materials inspired us. Then we headed back to the studio/classroom and created beautiful pieces of art.
  • We buried a time capsule we created which was filled with our handprints, footprints, our height measured with string, a picture of our beautiful selves, and a drawing of what we'd like to be when we grow up.
