 Our learning in Robins

In Religion & Worldviews, Year 6 have been exploring how special places and symbols reflect belief, with a particular focus on Judaism.

We have begun our Geography topic on climate change by finding out about the location and physical features of Iceland. This will allow us to explore glaciers and compare it with the flooding experienced in the UK.

We have been working on creating layered portraits in Art, using different mediums and taking inspiration from artists such as Gustav Klimt.

We have begun our Science topic on evolution and inheritance by exploring how offspring vary and are not identical to their parents.

In Spanish, we have been learning about planets. We became astronauts and interviewed each other about our suitability to go to space.

In DT, we have been designing and beginning to make a model of a playground for the Broadmead estate.

In Writing, we have been working on use of commas before planning an information about Earth and Space.

We have been learning about how the Earth moves in space and will be going on to discover more about the Earth's rotation and what this means for us.

We have been learning about democracy in Ancient Greece. We have discovered that equality was not the same as it is today. The girls were disgusted that they could not vote!

We have thrown themselves into a new way of learning spellings. We have focused on the spelling in words such as deuce, neutral, pneumatic and euphoria.

In Science, we have been working on classification. We needed to describe, represent and present data about a living organism in the animal kingdom.

In Art, we have been finishing our typography maps. We needed to think about what the text is trying to communicate, how the place name relates to the place, what kind of place might it be, and how the sense of place might affect the typeface we choose to use.

In PSHE, we have been learning about drugs and the law, including working out whether the law has been broken in various scenarios.

We have been learning about flat-file databases in Computing. We have been finding out how to search, group and sort data to find the information we require.

We have been working on our performance skills during Music. As well as recapping how to read music, we have been practising keeping in time whilst playing a piece of music on the glockenspiel or xylophone.

We have been getting to know the writing of William Shakespeare's comedy plots through immersion in A Midsummer Night's Dream. We have looked at similes, fronted adverbials and synonyms.
