Phase 1 toy day
Phase 1 had a fantastic Toy Day last Friday! The children loved sharing their favourite toys, taking part in playground games, and enjoying a very special visitor. Mrs Rushent, from Devizes Museum, brought along an incredible collection of historical toys, some dating back 100, 200, and even 1,000 years ago!
The children were fascinated to learn how toys have changed over time, and the excitement on their faces as they played with them was unforgettable.
A huge thank you to Mrs Rushent for bringing history to life in such a joyful and hands-on way!

Phase 2 trip to the Newt
Phase 2 were so lucky to have a visit to The Newt this week where they learnt lots more about our History topic of The Romans. They got to see a replica of a Roman villa, before seeing remains of a Roman villa in the museum. They asked lots of questions and were inquisitive. They also got to do some activities such as making mosaics, mixing herbs and playing traditional games.

Remembrance Day
In November, the whole school came together in an act of remembrance for Armistice Day. Miss Kelson taught the children all about why we mark Armistice Day and then Mr Pickett played 'The last post' to signal the start of our 2 minutes silence at 11.00am, and 'Reveille' to end. During this time we watched the footage of the 2 minutes silence from Remembrance Sunday at the Cenotaph and listened to Big Ben chiming and the canons being fired. It was a very moving assembly.

VE day commemoration
On the 80th anniversary of VE Day, Walwayne Court held an assembly to mark the end of the WW II in Europe. Part of the assembly was sharing Mrs Rowe's grandmother's memories of the end of the war. At lunchtime, we all came together to eat our lunches outside and play games like hopscotch, marbles and pick up sticks.

Phase 2 trip to Trowbridge Museum
Foxes and Hedgehogs classes took a trip to the Trowbridge Museum. Though they didn't have to travel far, they went over 2,000 years back in time to the Iron Age. This trip launched their last term of History this year and will complete their learning about British prehistory. The day was full of excitement and a learning session with James Smith always leaves everyone smiling. We also couldn't miss the opportunity to wattle and daub a wall as the Celts would have done in the Iron Age.

Stone age visitor
Phase 2 were lucky enough to have Julian Richards, a local archaeologist, in to deliver a workshop about the Stone Age. He taught them all about what an archaeologist does and how their research helps historians to find out about the past, and then the children got the chance to become archaeologists themselves! They explored what can be found under layers of grass and soil, and how marks left in chalk and things that don't rot away can be used to find out about what life was like in the past. They found out all about Stone Age settlements and helped to recreate a Stone Age house.
Phase 3 visit to Trowbridge Museum
To kick start their History topic, Year 5 and 6 enjoyed discovering all about the history of Trowbridge since the Iron Age with trips to Trowbridge Museum.

Phase 3 visit from Mr Birks - Trowbridge Museum
This week Mr Birks (who works at Trowbridge Museum) came in and looked at the timeline that Phase 3 have created this term during their History sessions. They have looked at the history of Trowbridge alongside other time periods. Mr Birks is taking all of their work back to the museum in the hope of creating a timeline which will go up in the museum... well done Phase 3!
