Raspberry Pi awards

Some children in Year 5 & 6 have been spending their lunch times and after school sessions working on an innovative coding project with Mr. Pickett. They entered a national competition, which is aimed at inspiring more young people to take up computer programming and collaborate to develop products to make the world a better place. The group's design aims to use a Raspberry Pi device, alongside other computing equipment, to monitor rising sea levels and send an alert when levels rise above a certain level. Following a rigorous selection process, we are delighted to announce that the Walwayne Coders team were shortlisted as finalists in the competition and travelled to Google Headquarters in London on Thursday for the Awards Day. In addition, the judges confirmed Walwayne Coders as the winner of the Inspiration Award for their age category! This special award is for the team that has shown outstanding endeavour, team working and enthusiasm on their project. Well done Walwayne Coders! They had a fantastic day meeting industry experts at the PA Consulting Raspberry Pi 2025 Competition Final at Google HQ in London. The children have spoken in detail to major CEOs and businesspeople about their innovation. Such a major achievement!

Safer Internet Day

We celebrated Safer Internet Day. Mr Pickett led an assembly with the theme of Scam and how to spot them, and then during the week each class has taken part in an activity linked to staying safe online. Some classes did a quiz, others watched the BBC live lesson on online safety, and some listened to stories all about how to stay safe on the internet, amongst other things!
